“Colours create emotions, and I want to feel something when I enter a room,” says the Danish photographer Mia Mortensen.
It is important for her that people feel an instant sense of calm when entering her home: A subtly colourful space with a mixture of design classics and bold details. “And then I hope they will get curious as they start to look around and notice pops of colour or quirky, vintage objects.”

Mia and her family live in an architect-designed house from the 50s, and while she has always been naturally drawn to the classic interior of this period — she likes to mix in playful elements: “At the moment, I am obsessed with everything chrome. It gives the room a wow effect.”
Creating instances of unexpected interest also lies behind her curation of art prints where tone-in-tone motifs are brought to life with bright colours.

“My favourite print is The Sea by Johannes Geppert. The calmness of the print goes well with the rest of the interior in my living room — and then I have paired it with the grass green frame to create contrast,” Mia explains.
Her profession as a photographer means that her every day is filled with creative contemplation and playing around with compositions. Something she has brought into the decor of her home as well, but where her studio is her creative oasis, her home is ultimately a place to recharge.
