Signe Bagger
Drawing and painting since she could hold a pencil, Signe Bagger’s artistic journey took a formal turn in 2016 when she ventured into the hallowed halls of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design, graduating with a master’s degree in graphic design communication in the summer of 2023. A semester at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland, was a pivotal chapter in her artistic evolution. Here, she immersed herself in the rich Polish tradition of poster making, an experience that left an indelible mark on her illustrative style.
Her artistic exploration oscillates between poetic storytelling and translating scientific themes from old biology books, the mysticism of tarot cards and natural, everyday phenomena into her work, placing them on a pedestal. Certain motifs consistently find their way into Signe’s works — stars, floral elements and chequered patterns.
Reflecting The Contrasts of Life
Signe believes, the recurring elements, add a touch of magic, mystique and contrast to her creations, becoming the visual vocabulary that speaks the language of enchantment in her pieces.
Experimentation is the cornerstone of Signe’s artworks. Over the years, she has explored myriad techniques and materials, seamlessly blending traditional methods with modern mediums. Her creative process unfolds in the pages of her notebook, a library of collected words, sketches and intriguing ideas. Working with both vibrant and muted colours, each hue plays its part in reflecting the contrasts of life. And despite the vibrant palette, her works possess an introverted and silent quality, beckoning viewers to reflect within themselves.
