Boiler Room
As the creative force behind Boiler Room, Sevgi Özkan merges the spirit of traditional Turkish ceramics with contemporary design. Inspired by the vibrant mix of historic and modern architecture in Istanbul and influenced by her roots in Kütahya, a city famed for its ceramics, Sevgi’s creations reflect a harmony of tradition and innovation.
Working primarily with ceramic and mirrors, Sevgi’s pieces invite both visual and tactile exploration. Her wall objects combine intricate textures and hand-painted patterns, echoing natural elements while maintaining a contemporary edge. “Ceramic stone captivates me with its durability and unique, tactile quality,” she shares. “It gives each frame a handcrafted feel, creating pieces that are both personal and timeless.”
A Play of Light and Texture
Sevgi’s creations are rooted in the exploration of texture, light and form. Drawing inspiration from nature’s organic patterns, she creates designs that play with depth and tactility. Her creative process is intuitive, beginning with sketches inspired by her environment, then evolving organically as she works with clay. This allows the material to guide her design and create a natural flow from concept to completion.
In the future, Sevgi envisions exploring sustainable materials and experimenting with larger-scale installations, aiming to bring new textures and dimensions to her work. Her journey is one of constant discovery, seeking to deepen her craft and share the tactile beauty of ceramics with an ever-growing community.
