Kasteel

Design Across Continents

Founded in Johannesburg, South Africa, and now working across Cape Town and Amsterdam, Kasteel is a design studio rooted in cross-continental collaboration. Drawing from the natural textures of the South African landscape and the minimalist traditions of Dutch craftsmanship, their work reflects a layered design language – equal parts local reference and global outlook. Each collection is developed in dialogue with a wide-ranging network of artists and designers, united by a shared commitment to thoughtful, expressive design.

Whether translating the cracked earth of the Karoo into negative space or using colour with mid-century rigour, Kasteel explores the meeting point between utility and emotion. “We don’t just create artwork,” they explain. “We discover it through a process of relentless experimentation.”

From Material to Meaning

Each Kasteel artwork begins in conversation – with place, with material, with the many hands that shape it. Their pieces draw on mid-century design principles, Brutalist forms, and landscape abstraction, refined into something tactile and contemporary. Clean lines, raw textures and a restrained colour palette reflect the studio’s ethos: reducing complexity to its most essential forms. “Good design should feel inevitable,” they explain. “We’re here to create those ‘of course’ moments – where beauty and function fuse so seamlessly, they simply feel meant to be.”
