Shatha Al-Dafai is a self-taught artist based in Muscat, Oman.
Shatha has been passionate about art since she was four years old. Her passion was a result of the way her mother encouraged Shatha to draw. When Shatha Al-Dafai got older, she completed her degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sultan Qaboos University in 2016. Afterwards, she invested her time in one line art: "It's inspired by faces and feelings aiming to depict the complications of life through one line. I found myself some kind of freedom in creating different faces without lifting the pen. Being open to different art forms allowed me to have a broad perspective on the arts which helped me to create unique artworks and have my own style".
Her first artwork was sold in October 2017 and Shatha's journey was finally kicked off. Today, she has started her own business, she has participated in group exhibitions and most recently, she has done a solo show.
The message behind Shatha Al-Dafai's art is that line art is powerful: "I do believe that less is more and if I could deliver a certain emotion to people through my one line art then that’s power". Shatha is inspired by her own feelings, music and books. Besides that, famous artists also influence her artwork: "I consider Picasso, Fernand Leger, Le Corbusier and Henri Matisse a continuous source of inspiration and I feel personally attached to their art".
Also, art to Shatha is a continuous process: "Art became my only way to translate my feelings through lines and colors. It is a journey of seeking an understanding of myself, to inspire and be inspired".
