A study of materiality, Lowe Olsen’s home in Borås, Sweden, is defined by the thoughtful layering of textiles, ceramics and metals, exuding an effortless warmth and striking a balance between the eclectic and the deeply personal. As a creative director, Lowe’s eye for design extends beyond her work, shaping every corner of her home with a mix of carefully chosen objects, second-hand treasures and art that tells a story.

Outside of her professional life, Lowe finds joy in making – sewing, painting, reupholstering furniture and, when the seasons allow, cultivating her dream garden. A day well spent, for Lowe, always involves the hunt for second-hand finds. This love for the unexpected carries through to her interiors, where curated layers of texture and colour create a home that feels inviting and full of character. “I hope my guests would describe my style as homely, interesting and unpredictable,” she muses.

Among the many pieces that make her home unique, one stands out: a striking three-headed dinosaur painting by Jonathan Sendborn. “I mean, what’s not to love?” she laughs. Art plays a central role in her space, chosen not just for aesthetics but for the memories it evokes. Her Curated by selection reflects this sentiment, with each print tied to a recent travel experience. “I love to be surrounded by art and objects that make me remember or feel something.”

Horses weave their way through Lowe’s collection, a subject she finds both compelling and a little unnerving. Despite her fear of them, she remains drawn to their form and presence in art. Her favourite piece, Horse Stories by Lucrecia Rey Caro, adds to the growing equine theme in her home – four framed horses in the living room alone. “That’s a bit weird now that I think about it,” she jokes.

For Lowe, a home should be in constant dialogue with its inhabitants. Nothing feels static, with the art and objects surrounding her shaping a space that is expressive and ever-evolving. Each material, from cool metals to soft textiles and warm wood, comes together to create a home that feels tactile, lived-in and effortlessly curated.
