Digital Craft
91–92/ninetyoneninetytwo is a Copenhagen-based studio founded by Zeyu Rong and Weibo Sun, whose practice bridges digital technology and material design. Originally from China, the duo has lived in Denmark for over a decade, launching their studio in 2020 to explore the potential of 3D printing as a design tool. Working primarily with recycled plastic, their objects blend functionality with form, drawing inspiration from both contemporary life and archetypal shapes. Past collaborations include projects with GANNI, Rains and Copenhagen Contemporary, as well as exhibitions at The Mindcraft Project and Ukurant.

“We like to explore the space between technology and the shapes of everyday or historic objects – bringing forms into the present through digital craft.”

Each piece is developed, printed and finished in-house in Copenhagen, allowing for full control over colour, scale and made-on-demand production. Their process is hands-on and iterative – sketching, prototyping and refining until the design feels complete. The flexibility of 3D printing lets them experiment with how an object might take shape, offering new perspectives on familiar forms.

Form, Colour and Process

While each design begins differently, the studio’s approach remains grounded in materiality and mood. Colours are chosen carefully, based on the emotional tone they lend to the final object – a way of shaping how it is perceived and used.

“Our work plays between the precision of technology and the softness of daily objects.”

Inspired by Italian designer Achille Castiglioni, as well as by secondhand finds and the rhythms of daily life, 91–92 continues to push the boundaries of digital craft. From their studio in Frederiksberg, they are quietly reshaping the role of 3D printing in contemporary design – bringing warmth, character and utility to a technology often associated with cold precision.
