As an interior architect, Emily’s passion for design is evident in every corner of her East London home. Having recently completed its renovation, Emily excels at blending creativity and functionality to craft thoughtful interiors. What began as a personal Instagram account documenting her renovation journey, @doingupdenbigh, unexpectedly blossomed into a vibrant community. Today, Emily runs her own design studio, Den, where she helps others transform houses into homes. She also enjoys hosting lunch clubs for fellow renovators, sharing her space and her love for connection. “Creating a place where people can gather has always been a dream of mine,” she reflects, noting that hosting and cooking are her love languages.

“Making a home feel authentic and personal requires a careful balance of curating our belongings”

Emily’s interior style blends the old with the new, creating a home that evolves alongside her. For Emily, style is not static but an ever-changing reflection of her life and experiences. This philosophy shines throughout her charming Victorian terraced house, where each space flows effortlessly into the next, a testament to her meticulous eye for detail. “It’s the sum of all the parts that makes it special,” she says.

Days in Emily’s home begin with a simple ritual: oats with bananas, a scroll through social media, and the hum of client calls for Den. Her afternoons are often spent visiting project sites – her favourite part of the day – before winding down in the evening with her sausage dog, Harold, and a fire crackling in the background. It’s a rhythm that combines productivity with quiet moments of comfort and joy.

Emily’s art selection is an extension of her design ethos. “I’m drawn to artwork with a sense of movement,” she shares, highlighting her affinity for dynamic forms and striking compositions. Her curation is versatile, allowing her to rearrange and reimagine pieces throughout her home. Her favourite is Spotted Horse by Isabelle Vandeplassche; its bold red tones perfectly complement her kitchen, and its composition invites viewers to pause and reflect – a hallmark of art that resonates.

Ultimately, Emily’s approach to interiors is deeply personal, grounded in her passion for creating spaces that feel lived-in and loved. Her home is not just a reflection of her design sensibilities but also of her commitment to building connections, both with the people who visit and the stories her space tells.
