From Film to Frame

Armin Tehrani is a Filipino-Iranian photographer born in Canada. His creative journey has taken him from the dynamic landscapes of Canada’s west coast to Copenhagen, Denmark, where he has built a life and creative practice rooted in intention and exploration. Since moving in 2017, he has been inspired by the city’s culture and its proximity to the rest of Europe, fueling his passion for travel and photography. Each destination becomes a canvas for Armin’s thoughtful approach to capturing fleeting moments, architecture and nature through the lens of his camera.

Armin’s process is firmly rooted in analogue photography, shooting exclusively on film and developing his work in a darkroom. “I don’t shoot photos unthinkingly,” he explains. “Whenever I’m travelling, I aim to capture scenes that hold meaning, often revisiting them to get the image just right.” This thoughtful approach continues in the darkroom, where he enhances his photographs with an eye for colour and tone.

A Cinematic Eye

Recurring motifs in his work include light and shadow, architecture and human connection, all captured with a cinematic sensibility inspired by his love of film. Iranian cinema holds a particular resonance for Armin, connecting him to his heritage while informing his visual storytelling. Among his favourite films are The Wind Will Carry Us and The White Balloon.

Armin’s relationship with colour is central to his photography. Whether through soft tonal gradients or vibrant contrasts, colour shapes the emotion and narrative of his images. He finds inspiration in the work of photographers like Saul Leiter and Jack Davison, alongside contemporary influences from his creative circle.
