Atelier Ars Ana

Based in Bucharest and originating from the Republic of Moldova, Atelier Ars Ana draws on a lineage of makers and an academic background in architecture and restoration. The artist's practice moves across ceramics, painting, murals and illustration, with storytelling a constant thread. In ceramics she pursues what she calls immortal, slow objects, favouring white porcelain and cobalt blue. Process leads rather than a fixed outcome, and recurring birds, horizons and simplified figures form a personal mythology.

About Atelier Ars Ana

Atelier Ars Ana is based in Bucharest and originates from the Republic of Moldova. “My roots are anchored in a lineage of makers. My grandfather was a wood craftsman and a teacher who taught me that to see is a form of prayer.” This sense of inheritance continues to shape her work, alongside an academic background in architecture and restoration, where she developed an interest in history and what she describes as “the poetry of the past.” Together, these elements inform her approach to proportion, colour and form, as well as her ongoing focus on creating shapes and stories.

Form, Surface and Story

Her practice moves across ceramics, painting, murals and illustration, with storytelling remaining a consistent thread. Materials are approached as part of an ongoing exploration, allowing for experimentation and change. In ceramics, she focuses on what she calls “immortal, slow objects,” developed over time and shaped through process. She is particularly drawn to white porcelain and cobalt blue, materials she describes as turning “the tangible into a willing object of beauty.”

Rather than working towards a defined outcome, she describes it as a series of attempts where mistakes play a necessary role in how the work takes form. “You don’t have a proposed end point in mind – the process is the assumption and even the search for mistakes,” she explains. Recurring elements appear throughout her work, including birds, horizons and simplified human figures, forming a personal mythology that unfolds throughout her work.
