Dominika Kamanova

Raised in Brno, Czech Republic, in an environment shaped by music, performance and the visual arts, Dominika Kamanova first studied musicology and played the concert flute before moving to Denmark and turning toward working with her hands. Trained at a ceramic school in the Czech countryside and in jewellery design at KEA, she now works across ceramics and jewellery from her studio in Vesterbro. Building with light stoneware clay, she lets rhythm and repetition guide her forms, returning often to the spiral and keeping colour restrained.

About Dominika Kamanova

Dominika Kamanova grew up in Brno, Czech Republic, in a culturally rich environment shaped by music, performance and the visual arts. Initially pursuing musicology at university while playing the concert flute, her path shifted after moving to Denmark, where she became increasingly drawn to working with her hands and exploring material through form.

Her artistic practice developed through a combination of self-directed exploration and formal training, including time spent at a ceramic school in the Czech countryside and later studies in jewellery design at KEA. Today, she works across ceramics and jewellery, working from her studio in Vesterbro. Across both disciplines, she approaches making as a tactile and direct process, where form, texture and material are allowed to define the outcome.

Rhythm, Repetition and Form

Working primarily with light stoneware clay, Dominika builds her pieces through a process that begins with simple observations and material exploration. Forms emerge through handling and repetition, allowing each piece to take shape gradually. Her background in music continues to inform this way of working, with rhythm, variation and repetition translating into how she approaches structure and composition.

A recurring element in her work is the spiral, a form she returns to and reinterprets across different objects and scales. It reflects an ongoing interest in movement and continuity, where shapes evolve rather than remain fixed. Colour is approached with restraint, often limited to black and off-white tones. Rather than acting as decoration, it supports the structure of the work, allowing form and surface to remain in focus.
