Emilie Holm Atelier

Based in Copenhagen, Emilie Holm works between objects, textiles and drawings, exploring how form, colour and surface shape the way we experience objects. A background in textiles keeps tactility and colour central across every material. Each piece often begins with a single observation, then develops through sketches and small studies. Ceramics form part of her investigation into surface, where glaze, texture and irregularity become integral. Drawn to contrast and the odd one out, she handmakes each work in small series or one-of-a-kind.

About Emilie Holm Atelier

Based in Copenhagen, Emilie Holm’s practice moves between objects, textiles and drawings, exploring how form, colour and surface shape the way we experience objects. A background in textiles continues to inform this approach, with tactility and colour remaining central regardless of material.

Her work is rooted in material exploration, often beginning with a specific observation – a proportion, a colour combination or the way light falls across a surface. From there, ideas are developed through sketches and small studies, allowing each piece to take shape through testing and adjustment. The result is a body of work that balances sculptural presence with practical function, where objects are considered both visually and physically.

Material and Contrast

Ceramics form part of her ongoing investigation into surface and form, where glaze, texture and irregularity become integral to the final expression. Working across materials, she continues to draw on a textile-informed sensitivity to colour and tactility.

Her work often centres on contrast – in material, colour and scale – as well as on subtle irregularities that shift the perception of familiar forms. She is drawn to what she describes as “the odd one out”, using small deviations to introduce tension and variation within an object. Colour is approached as something spatial and tactile, used to define structure and emphasise the relationship between form and surface. Each work is handmade and produced in small series or as one-of-a-kind pieces, reflecting a considered approach to both making and material.
