Visual artist Lee Burnett immortalises life’s vibrant and ordinary moments through his camera lens, infusing them with humour, joy and a touch of serendipity.

Lee Burnett, a 35-year-old creative from the UK, began his journey in the visual world at an early age, thanks to his father’s attic darkroom and vintage Olympus OM1 35mm camera, passed down as a cherished heirloom. From those formative years, his fascination with photography grew into a lifelong passion.

With more than a decade of experience as a cinematographer, Lee has travelled the globe, working on an array of documentary films and commercials. Yet, one constant companion on his journeys is his still camera. Photography serves as his haven for experimentation and personal enjoyment.

Life Through the Lens

Aspiring to intertwine the art of storytelling with his photographic skills, Lee’s visual narratives are guided by humour, chance and joy. While drawn to elements of nature, architecture and everyday objects, it is the relationships between these that truly captivate him: the juxtaposition of seemingly mundane objects can spark laughter or curiosity, making the most ordinary subjects a canvas for his art.

For Lee, photography extends beyond art—it is a form of meditation and exploration. As a vehicle for discovering the beauty in the minutiae of life, it leads him to obscure places and to uncover overlooked details.

His editing process is a dynamic dance, sometimes driven by a clear vision and, at other times, allowing experimentation, manipulating images until they resonate perfectly. Each image dictates its unique editing process, shaped by the mood and message it conveys. Printing, too, plays a pivotal role, allowing him to witness the interplay of light and texture and bringing his images to life in a tangible form.
