Copenhagen-based photographer Robin Skjoldborg seeks to document the essence of people and place through his lens. Shooting predominantly on a Nikon Z9 and Fuji XT5, he finds moments of authenticity in both natural environments and unguarded everyday scenes, his lens moving effortlessly between bustling urban environments and quiet landscapes in search of a scene that tells a story.

Whether shooting in his home city or on the streets of Tokyo, his approach is both observant and intentional – researching his subject beforehand but keeping things simple to let the story unfold naturally. His compositions are carefully considered, yet never overworked, allowing space for spontaneity and serendipity.

Subtle Colours, Strong Connections

The human element is at the heart of Robin’s work. “I like meeting people, hearing their stories and making them feel confident with me and my camera.” His portraits carry a quiet strength, shaped by his ability to put his subjects at ease. Even in his travel and landscape photography, there is a strong human presence – whether directly through the people he meets or through subtle traces of life in an empty space.

Robin prefers a subtle, understated colour palette, letting light and composition guide his images. Inspiration comes from many places – travel, photography, books and cinema – while new destinations continually fuel his creative process.

From his studio overlooking the Copenhagen harbour, he continues to explore the intersections of people, place and perspective. Whether on the move or in the stillness of a familiar environment, Robin’s work is a study in presence, capturing the fleeting and the timeless in equal measure.
