Tiny de Vries

Tiny de Vries is a Dutch artist, working from her studio Tinystories in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

After she graduated from the University of art in Utrecht she lived and studied art in Indonesia, Bandung. When she came back from Indonesia Tiny founded the studio ‘Tinystories’.

“I am every day in my studio, painting and creating, all of the painting and collages are just like running out of my hand; it just flows in a way that I can’t control. I don’t plan anything, and it just comes out in the painting.” 

She grew up in a small Dutch farming village, Oostendorp, in a very creative open-minded and free-spirited family. Both of her parents were artist and worked from their studios at home. They all worked on their allotment, dyed fabric, sewed clothes and drew and painted every single day.“For as long as I can remember, art has always be a big part of my life.”

Vintage Techniques

Her paintings, illustrations and collages are all hand made, using different techniques and materials including old paper, linen and vintage book paper. Her work has been displayed worldwide, in private collections, her artworks are sold in concept stores worldwide, in boutique hotels, used by interior & jewellery brands and are often featured in international magazines.

“I am always observing, love the little nothings, and try to soak in a moment, always having lots of ideas in my head. Travelling, meeting people, making photos, and nature is a big inspiration for my paintings and artworks. The magic happens often while I gather all materials on the ground in my studio, inspired by what is in my head, from my inner depths, what I feel, what I see. And then it just flows.”
