Josefine Vibe lives with her husband and their three young children in a classic townhouse in Copenhagen’s historic Potato Rows. By day, she works as a Policy Officer at the Danish Agency for Digital Government, while life at home revolves around family, cooking, reading and time spent with friends.
The family moved into the house in 2022 and quickly settled into the neighbourhood’s distinctive “village in the city” atmosphere, where children play together in the street and afternoons with neighbours often turn into spontaneous dinners. It is this sense of community, combined with the space, light and outdoor life, that first drew Josefine and her family to the area.
Built in the characteristic yellow brick of the Potato Rows, the house retains much of its original character, including wooden floors and doors that have been preserved rather than replaced. Josefine’s approach to the interior follows a similar appreciation for things with history and personality. Classic Danish design sits alongside contemporary international pieces, with different periods, materials and expressions brought together to create contrast. White walls provide a quiet backdrop for furniture and art, while the rooms themselves are designed to be lived in.
“We love beautiful things and good design, but we also need our home to feel alive and lived-in, not perfectly styled,” she says. With three small children and a steady flow of friends and family, functionality is as important as aesthetics. Her favourite space is the living room on the first floor, where the family gathers on the sofa to read, play cards and spend time together – a relaxed setting shaped by warm wooden floors, soft textiles and pieces collected over time.
For her Curated by selection, Josefine was drawn to artworks that could hold their own within this layered interior while bringing a sense of calm and depth to the rooms. Above the family’s long green sofa, she chose Lacuna and Venation by Sofie Rebecca Iversen – two works from the same series that create a natural dialogue when placed side by side. Their intricate compositions reward a closer look, while the large scale allows the details of the artworks to come fully into focus and gives the expansive wall a strong visual anchor. She also chose the Wall Object The Diver by Atelier Ars Ana, introducing a sculptural element that adds another layer of texture and dimension to the home’s mix of art and design.
Josefine’s favourite piece, however, is Island by Robin Skjoldborg. With its subtle nuances and quiet sense of depth, the work has an almost meditative quality. “Time and time again I catch myself lost in thought while looking at it,” she says. For Josefine, its peaceful expression offers a small moment of calm at the end of the day, while sitting naturally alongside the family’s mix of design pieces, including their Muller Van Severen lamp and Swedish rölakan rug.
